CERT Team Information

North Smithfield Emergency Management proposes to train a CERT team in each neighborhood, starting in 2007  A Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a group of 10 to 20 citizens trained and certified by the NSEMA to provide emergency assistance in their own neighborhood for the first 72 hours following a disaster. They could be activated for:


  • Severe winter storms
  • Woodland fires near the city
  • Major earthquakes
  • Civil disturbances or other calamities 
  • Hazardous materials spills
  • Neighborhood Crime Watch
